Is the Pomeranian right for you?

Before considering a Pom, it is vital that you ask yourself these questions.



Do you have children under 13 years old?

If the answer is yes, then a Pom is not the dog for you. They are small, fragile dogs that can easily break legs and injure themselves. Young children are more likely to injure a Pom and can scare the Pom by being too boisterous.

Do you have a big dog?

Dogs over 10lbs adult weight can easily injure a Pom. Many dogs will think the Pom is just a Chew Toy.

Do you have the money to look after your Pom?

Do you have the finances not only to buy the Pom but to pay for vet treatment (when needed), booster vaccinations, grooming, food, bedding, training, ect …

Do you work full-time, Part-time or Not at all?

It is not fair for your Pom to be left on its own for hours on end. If you work full time it is not a good time for you to purchase a Pom.

Where will the Pom live?

Poms are prone to getting chills therefore they should Not be housed outside. They are much happier as part of the family and should live in your house.

Do you have the time to spend with your Pom?

Do you have the time to train your pom, walk your pom, play with your pom and socialise your pom. All these make for a happy, friendly pom.

Is your home pom friendly?

Poms quite like to chew things when they are babies. They can easily chew threw an electric cable and get electrocuted. Pick up anything that you do not want personalised by little teeth. Make sure all fences are secure so that your little pom will not escape.

Can you groom your Pom or have a groomer that can groom your pom?

Poms coats are quite easy to groom, only about 10 minutes every 2-3 days. When they moult, they can take anything upto 2 hours per groom just to keep on top of the moult.
